About Etching

Etching is an intaglio printmaking process in which lines or areas are incised using acid into a metal plate in order to hold the ink. In etching, the plate can be made of iron, copper, or zinc.The technique of reproducing a design by coating a metal plate with wax and drawing with a sharp instrument called a stylus through the wax down to the metal. The plate is put in an acid bath, which eats away the incised lines; it is then heated to dissolve the wax and finally inked and printed on paper.
পাথর, দস্তা বা এলুমিনিয়ামের পাত ব্যবহার করে ছাপানোর পদ্ধতিকে লিথোগ্রাফি বলে। লিথোগ্রাফিক পদ্ধতিতে ছাপার কাজে অক্ষরের পরিবর্তে কাগজের উপর কালি দিয়ে লিখে কাগজটিকে এক ধরনের চুনা পাথর-এর উপর চাপ দিলে পাথরের উপর ছাপ পড়ে। পরে ঐ লেখা কিছুটা ফুলে উঠলে তখন কালি দিয়ে ছাপলে ঐ লেখার ছাপ কাগজে উঠে আসে।
